A REAL CHI YOUTH PODCAST: Hip Hop and R&B compete for dominance in Chicago

To many Chicagoans, it is no surprise that Hip Hop and R&B have always been deeply rooted in the Windy City. Though both genres often intertwine and challenge one another, many wonder which one has had more individual success and influence. It is a conversation that questions how realistic, prominent, and instrumental contemporary hip hop and R&B are to Chicago, as well as challenging people to think about the city and its music through a different lens.
Real Chi Youth Reporters Diana Adeniyi and Allison Cho sat down with Ibrahim Adebiyi, a chicago born-suburban raised rapper known as Young Corlie, and Octavia Adeniyi, an R&B enthusiast from the south side of Chicago, to gain more perspective on this discussion.
Ibrahim and Octavia discussed whether hip hop or R&B fit into their definitions of musical influence, as well as how both genres have changed over time.
