The Mental Ill Being More Prone To Harassment

Nearly a quarter of both State prisoners and jail inmates who had a mental health problem, compared to a fifth of those without, had served 3 or more prior incarcerations. We spoke with a staff member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Congresswoman Robin Kelly and a Supervising Attorney from Equip For Equality to determine the causes of harassment and where it stems from. We will also discuss how to properly deal with mentally ill people in their state of help. The motivation for this story is the fact that the mentally ill don’t have many people to stand for them and that the police are not properly train to approach these situations differently.  We’re giving them a voice and allowing others to be aware of the struggles of the mentally ill dealing with police harassment.
