Meet Real Chi Youth Reporter : Annie Zorn

I am Annie Zorn, am 18 year old reporter from the Northside of Chicago who is new to Real Chi Youth, but a veteran appreciator of journalism and storytelling. I am attending Illinois Institute of Technology to study architecture and I look forward to experiencing Chicago with a new lens. I enjoy telling all kinds of stories but specifically stories about housing and education in the context of Chicago. Prevalent issues such as gentrification and standardized testing have been written about many times before, but I aim to create fresh audio and visual pieces that bring a new life and voice to these stories. This summer I hope to expand my interviewing and social media skills. I believe that social media is a powerful tool that can be harnessed to tell youth perspective — a perspective that is frequently ignored by the Chicago media. My favorite thing about Chicago is the way that despite the powerful history and systems that leave it one of the most segregated cities in the country, there are an amazing amount of young people and leaders who work to get their voices heard.
