Roughly 34 percent of LGBT youth report enduring physical violence from their parents because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, according to a 2011 study from the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN). Meanwhile, one-third of LGBTQ youth have attempted suicide, according to a 2010 study from the University of Illinois at Chicago. That is why we decided to make our story about mental health in LGBT youth. We will be talking to ICAH (Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health), one of the youth from ICAH, and Center on Halsted. We have decided to interview these organizations because we wanted to find out what is being done to help LGBT youth dealing with mental health and identify ways change is being created. We have decided to tell our story through audio and video.
